Arsenal should seek a deal for Mario Suarez as Coquelin’s replacement
Arsenal are in desperate need of a new holding midfielder after
regular first-team star Francis Coquelin was ruled out for up to
three months with a knee ligament injury.
Arsene Wenger’s options are extremely limited, what with Jack
Wilshere constantly battling fitness and the likes of Mikel Arteta
and Mathieu Flamini seemingly no longer at the required standard.
A move for a new holding midfielder in January ultimately makes
sense, yet as a result of their injury situation, clubs will
undoubtedly try and take advantage by hiking up prices.
Arsenal need a cheap, quick fix – and they could be in luck as
Mario Suarez’s future is in doubt.
The three-cap Span international spent five years at Atletico
Madrid before joining Fiorentina in the summer as part of a deal
which saw Stefan Savic head the other way.
Suarez won a number of trophies at the Vicente Calderon,
including La Liga, the Europa League, the Copa Del Rey and two
European Super Cups, as he made a total of 178 appearances for
the club.

Allowing him to leave was a bit puzzling, considering his role with
Atleti, and his ensuing stint in Italy with Fiorentina hasn’t really
gone to plan, with murmurs suggesting he could be set for a
January exit.
As per a report in Estadio Deportivo , Suarez is said to have fallen
out with coach Paulo Sousa and could leave in January as
Fiorentina eye a replacement deal in the form of Levante’s Victor
Camarasa.
Suarez, 28, is predominantly a holding midfielder and possesses
key attributes such as tough talking, strong discipline, excellent
leadership skills and real energy in the middle.

He would undoubtedly be an improvement on the likes of Flamini
and Arteta, due to his mobility, physical presence and general
awareness to the dangers around him.
Arsenal are in need of a new addition, and considering Suarez’s
alleged availability, they would be foolish not to try and seek a deal
– even a possible loan deal – during the January transfer window.
